What is FAQ schema?

FAQ schema is FAQPage structured data: a block of JSON-LD that labels each question and answer on a page. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026, but the markup is still valid schema.org. Add it when your page has a real, visible FAQ, and do not expect a special search snippet from it.

Does FAQ schema still work?

As a search feature, no. Google's changelog says the FAQ rich result “will no longer appear in Google Search starting May 7, 2026”, and the documentation for it was removed in June 2026 (Google Search Central updates). As markup, yes: FAQPage is still a schema.org type, it still describes your questions and answers to anything that reads structured data, and Google says unused structured data does not cause problems.

It is also not a shortcut into AI answers. Google's AI optimization guide says structured data “isn't required for generative AI search”. What still pays off is the FAQ itself: short, specific answers to the questions your visitors ask before they buy. The longer version, with what an FAQ does for search today, is on the HelpCenter.io blog (FAQs.me is made by the HelpCenter.io team).

How to add FAQ schema to your page

  1. Generate it. Enter the same questions and answers that appear on your page, then copy the JSON-LD above.
  2. Paste it into the page. Put the script tag in the <head> or just before </body>. Many site builders have a custom code or header scripts field for this.
  3. Keep it matched to the visible FAQ.Google's structured data policies say “Don't mark up content that is not visible to readers of the page.” Check the result in the Schema.org validator.

Example FAQPage JSON-LD

Two questions from a store FAQ, as the generator outputs them:

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "FAQPage",
  "mainEntity": [
    {
      "@type": "Question",
      "name": "How long does shipping take?",
      "acceptedAnswer": {
        "@type": "Answer",
        "text": "Orders ship within 2 business days. Delivery takes 3 to 5 days in the US."
      }
    },
    {
      "@type": "Question",
      "name": "Can I return an item?",
      "acceptedAnswer": {
        "@type": "Answer",
        "text": "Yes. Return any unused item within 30 days for a full refund."
      }
    }
  ]
}
</script>

Questions about this tool

Is the FAQ schema generator free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account, and runs in your browser, so the questions you type are not sent to our servers.
Does FAQ schema help with AI search?
Google says structured data isn't required for generative AI search and that there is no special schema.org markup you need to add. Clear questions and answers in the visible page matter more than the markup.
Should I remove FAQ schema I already have?
No need. Google says there's no need to proactively remove it, and that structured data that is not being used does not cause problems for Search.
Can I use Markdown in answers?
Links, bold and italic are flattened to plain text in the JSON-LD, the same way the FAQs.me editor exports them.

Want the visible FAQ section too?

Pick a design in the free editor and export the FAQ section with this FAQPage markup built in, so the markup and the page always match. Or start from one of the templates.
